You’re Not Awkward — You’re Just Not Used to Being Seen

Let’s talk about why so many women think they’re “bad at photos” — and why that’s not true.

Now, here's the thing ladies - nobody is born knowing exactly what to do infront of the camera. Yes, some people might naturally find this easier to do, being that bit more confident or comfortable in their bodies than the rest of us but that doesn't mean they're not actually just as self conscious as I am. Most of us have never been photographed professionally or if we have, it was done and dusted in 2 seconds flat by the in-house photographer (who was actually just the only one on the team who knew how to use the camera mildly ok) and it wasn't really that great of an experience. Or worse yet, it was a random snap at a family event or BBQ in really bad lighting. Of course you're going to feel a bit awkward thinking about being in front of the camera.

But I'm here to tell you, you're not expected to know what to do. You're not un-photographic, you just haven't been photographed by the right photographer yet. One that will guide you on your posing, where to place your hands, will look at every detail like those stray hairs or whether your fringe is falling right. One that will look after you and be invested in making sure you look your absolute best.

It's not about becoming someone else's version of you, it's about seeing yourself in a way that maybe you never have before. it’s about recognising the version of you that’s already there, hidden under self-consciousness and bad lighting. By the time we’re done, you won’t just have incredible portraits — you’ll have proof that you were never “bad at photos” to begin with.

You’ll stop saying “I’m awkward in photos” and start saying, “Ohmygosh… that’s me?”

I repeat: You don't need to know what to do, that's what I'm here for.
